    About the Collective

    Ancestral memory.
    Contemporary expression.

    Our Story

    Four Artists, One Return

Krokus Rootz Art Collective was founded by four Antiguan artists who returned home with diverse creative and life experiences. What brought them together was a shared question: how can art reconnect people with cultural memory, strengthen identity, and inspire new ways of seeing ourselves and our future?

    Our Philosophy

    Making Ancestral Memories Meaningful

Krokus Rootz is not just a name — it is a guiding philosophy. The collective is grounded in ancestral knowledge while looking toward the future, creating space for people to remember, question, celebrate, and rebuild connections to the stories and memories that shaped us.

    Africa, Antigua & the Caribbean

    Traditions That Remain Visible

Krokus Rootz draws direct connections between contemporary Antiguan life and ancestral African traditions that remain visible throughout the Caribbean — through masquerade, Carnival, folklore, movement, rhythm, spirituality, storytelling and community celebration. These traditions are not presented as historical relics; the collective's philosophy holds that ancestral knowledge remains relevant today.

    Art as Memory

    Looking Backward to Recover

Painting, sculpture, spoken word, traditional dance, performance, drumming and storytelling all serve as vessels for memory — ways of holding on to what might otherwise be lost, and passing it forward.

    Art as Identity

    Examining Who We Are Now

The collective's work sits in the present tense as much as the past — examining contemporary Antiguan and Caribbean identity, and what it means to carry ancestral knowledge into modern life.

    Art as Possibility

    Building Toward the Future

Ancestral knowledge can contribute to self-love, cultural identity, emotional strength, historical consciousness, community and creativity. Krokus Rootz creates toward the future as much as it looks backward — using art to imagine what comes next.

Krokus Rootz is simultaneously looking backward to recover memory, examining contemporary identity, and creating toward the future.
